Maintaining & cleaning your chimney

Cleaning your chimney or flue on a regular basis is important as it will prevent a build-up of soot in the chimney.

Your wood burning/solid fuel stove installation should be inspected, serviced and maintained annually.

We recommend choosing an NVQ qualified sweep to do this as they have been trained and assessed by a CITB approved training organisation so you can be assured that they have the experience and skills needed. You can search for your local NVQ sweep here.

A chimney is designed to safely transmit the products of combustion to the atmosphere. If you are at all concerned about the integrity of your chimney you should seek professional advice right away and have it repaired.

FBCS

The Federation of British Chimney Sweeps (FBCS) provides a single point of contact for the main chimney sweeping trade associations in the UK.

Each association maintains a register of members so it should be relatively each to find a chimney sweep or engineer in your area.
