SIA Ecodesign Ready Appliances

The mark is awarded to wood burning appliances that meet the five fundamental requirements of the Regulation (EU) 2015/1185 24/5/2015 for efficiency and emissions.

The five measures covered in the Ecodesign Ready scheme are seasonal efficiency, NOx, CO, PM (Particulate Matter) and OGCs (Organic Gaseous Compounds). This does not imply that these stoves meet all other future requirements of Ecodesign regulations, such as product labelling and instruction manuals, which come in to force in 2022. Other areas of compliance are not examined for the Ecodesign Ready scheme.

The SIA Ecodesign Ready scheme highlights SIA Members’ commitment to improving appliance design so that their stoves are cleaner, more efficient and contribute to improving our environment through lower emissions.

Consumers can also now look for the clearSkies Mark when choosing their new wood burning stove or fireplace.

clearSkies is an objective and independent emissions and energy performance certification scheme for stoves and fireplaces. As well as identifying those appliances that meet Ecodesign regulations and are Defra exempt (clearSkies Level 3), clearSkies also distinguishes those appliances that go beyond the requirements of Ecodesign with a further reduction in emissions and even better efficiency (clearSkies Levels 4 & 5).

Initiated by the industry through the Stove Industry Alliance (SIA), clearSkies is designed to drive the development of cleaner and more efficient appliances and is open to all manufacturers of solid fuel stoves and fireplaces.
